Zoomed out can be cured if you dare the reality.

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 15 April 2014 12:08 (A review of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty)

As we know that Ben Stiller is a fine actor mostly in comical roles. But no one ever used better than himself in his own directions. Yes, most of his great performances and movies came under his steering of the ship. This is the one more movie where he exposed his creativity in filmmaking as well as acting.

'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' was anticipated to be one of an Oscar node for the 86th ceremonial season, but failed unexpectedly. That did not stop the movie to the viewers to enchant with its beautiful contents. The movie was shot in many exotic places around the world, especially the sub-arctic countries like Greenland, Iceland et cetera are so alluring. According to the story the movie won't stick to the same location for more than 15-20 minutes. The constant change of places played a vital role in the movie's successive cinematographic presentation.

It was a refreshing movie compared to the movies that released in the same year. In everything, from the distinct characters to the places it takes place to the technical parts. Those places as they say were not exactly the same. Most of them were shot in a studio and the rest were the magic of special effects.

Like I always say critics are a bad influence for creative movie like this. This movie was thrashed by them, but movie fanatics are the one who stood by the side so I am happy to be one and I loved this movie. This movie was based on the short story of the same name that was published in a magazine in 1939 and was second movie adaptation after the 1947 version. If you are looking for a variety in a movie well here it is.

Never been easier to make money: stealin or earnin

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 15 April 2014 12:06 (A review of The Brass Teapot)

Rising star award winner at BAFTA for the 2013 season, Juno Temple, is one of my watch-out actress after seeing her in 'Dirty Girl'. As far as I know she has not donned in a comical role so it was good to see her in this movie as one. This is the role she needed the most after all her previous roles were pretty much serious. The chemistry between her and her counterpart was excellent. The direction was nice, it was her first full length venture which was adapted from her short movie of the same name.

As the movie had two young actors, story too ideally matched and looked like specially made for young viewers. This fantasy theme was largely influenced by Aladdin's 'magic lamp' except Genie. Yes the movie was about magic teapot which works differently here, we can say it was modified to suit the modern world. An engaging screenplay, which happens around a teapot throughout the movie and makes us to keep guessing.

Of course, logic does not apply here, it takes turns like what a common man does or think if he had a magic pot with him. It was all about money, the world won't work without money so the story evolves around a young couple who are thirsty for money. Like it was another perspective of money making concept that similar to 'The Wolf of Wall Street'. All the above it delivered an inspiring message that necessitated to tell for todays young generation. This movie can be watched for entertainment purpose and also for time pass.

7.5/10

Not your worst movie of the year

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 15 April 2014 11:56 (A review of The Colony)

We won't often get a better done B stream movies. I never heard of this director, but he should utilize this movie's success as a platform for his future works. It was not bad as it was rated, it was quite an entertaining movie with fine performances. All the way Laurence Fishburne is the only familiar face you could find. His inclusion in the movie had the advantage. He delivered what his crew expected from him and the rest was recovered by the other cast members that I don't know anyone of them.

Basically, this movie had a very simple concept, a story that was not expanded, but moves on a certain lane till the end. It was all about surviving which is set in the backdrop of next ice age where few people who survived live in colonies located underground. It follows the story of the colony 7, when they won't get respond from their's mutual understanding colony 5 the rescue team set to leave to know what's going on. They reach their destination and come to know everything, while escaping, the horror follows them. How it will be avoided from affecting the colony 7 and their strength of the defense system reveals in the rest.

This was not a movie made by some popular filmmaker with top actors. Like any other movie, it was also targeted commercial purpose. They want to make money and fame, but what we need is a good entertainment and so we get it. I am not saying or comparing to the masterpiece, though better than some A-list movies. I Gauratee it won't be your worst movie of the year. I was fulfilled with what I was anticipated, so no disappointment. If you are a luck it may work for you as well.

Tinker Bell's all new adventures.

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 15 April 2014 11:53 (A review of The Pirate Fairy)

The fifth movie of the 'Tinkerbell' movie series. Probably the weakest one only in a slight margin, but the entertainment was assured. For each sequel DisneyToon brought a new director to direct it. With vast change in stories from each other to the addition of new characters in every new movie. These frequent modifications had a significant task to the movie's stronghold, especially for young kids under 8 as well the most of the grown ups.

I have been watching this movie series since the first one came out. As a movie buff, I love to watch all kinds of movie so I did not leave this children's movie as well. In todays world you don't have to hesitate to peek into a movie like this because, for the record, effortlessly millions of bucks making movies are the animations.

Like I said the new addition was the character Zarina, a dust-keeper fairy who is another version of Tinkerbell. She is very skilled and curious in nature about everything she sees who love to modify and invent new things. In a such experiment she conducts something goes wrong and the whole fairy community will be held in a dangerous situation. As usual, our smart Tinkerbell and Co makes their effort to break free from the evil course. How it has been done is the story in the remains.

There's a thing in the story where powers of each other fairies are switched. Because of that, all the fairies engaged in adventures are equally unveiled. So if you are a Tinkerbell fan, you will be slightly disappointed. Also the story was tried to connect with Peter Pan's Neverland with characters like croc with clock ticking noise from his belly and of course the Hook, the pirate captain. If you are a intelligent enough, you will find other stuffs as well. A good movie in a series that is not too awesome or too awful, but can be enjoyable for its short run.

3rd time lucky, equally maintained with previous 2

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 10 April 2014 10:47 (A review of Hatchet III)

Hatchet movies never were my type of horror-thriller. But I do enjoy the gore yet find hard to peep with wide open eyes because killing were very brutal even though I know it is fake. Like previous two, this the third installment was not bad at all. I can say third time lucky. The story followed with new characters and one unchanged, any guess? Victor Crowley. Without him this movie is nothing.

As a sequel, it was well done, I mean well developed characters to bring to the killing arena. Of course, many intense scenes that did not bothered story to proceed. Kind of convinced, that it all ended here with this trilogy. That is what all I am believing right now, but I won't be surprised if another movie makes its way.

Not even worth to have a fake laugh

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 10 April 2014 10:39 (A review of Scary Movie 5)

Scary movie series were famous for spoofing other great movies. It all began with a decent first, then sequel after sequel declined its originality as well the fun parts. This fifth movie was below average, had some of the good guys in guest roles and that did not bring the movie upwards. I don't know what's with the Snoop Dogg and Mike Tyson's cameo, anyway the movie was almost crap.

During the watch I almost sat idle throughout the movie without having a laugh. I believe that was not intended to give the viewers by this filmmaker, but that is what really happened to me. I know they won't stop here with this, so I say better luck with the next movie of this series.

Looked fine except below par performances

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 10 April 2014 10:30 (A review of I Spit on Your Grave 2)

I really never expected a sequel to this original movie. Actually, it was not a follow-up, but the story that happen is a similar fashion to the earlier movie. You know a young woman will be brutally raped by some gang men and the woman rises from the ground to take revenge. Yes the same story theme, but in different location and people.

I was impressed with this second part's modification, very simple yet maintained the originality. My concern was the female lead, she was good looking and pretty, but in all the important scenes she was kind of annoyed with overdone everything. Except that it was an acceptable movie which stands as the title say.

When trouble follows you, what'll your next move?

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 10 April 2014 10:21 (A review of When Pigs Have Wings)

An English-Arabic-Hebrew language movie from a debuntant French director which unfolds the story of an unwealthy Gazan and his incredible adventure. The most sensitive issue was told in very enjoyable comical style, it might be Israel and Palestine or Islam-Jewish and pig. One of a rare movie, which was smartly made and will be better than you expect.

The story of a poor fisherman from Gaza who end up of having a pig in his net during fishing. The animal is a bad omen according to his religion which forbids to sight. He takes advice from his friend who instruct to kill it, but for his soft-heartedness he let it live. Soon or later everyone around him going to find it so he need to send it from where it came. Those his adventures become our great entertainment throughout.

Like I said very interesting material used for this story with gentle characters. The opening is undoubtedly sweeps our attention completely with fine character and story developments. But in the middle kind of little muddles without much happening in the story, more like everything were paused at once. And again hurried last portion hits like a lightening pace till the end.

As per the final scene a sequel can be expected. I will be happy if the director had a plan for that because the character Jafaar is the reason. Kind of Wes Anderson style presentation, I said a little especially on the humorous side. A good movie to choose for purely entertainment purpose for its diverged elements.

Finding love at the end of the life.

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 10 April 2014 10:17 (A review of Mr. Morgan's Last Love)

The film was based on the French novel and made a big change in Michael Caine's role which was originally a French called Armand but transformed into American as Morgan. It was also the best Michael Caine's movie as a lead after 'Harry Brown'. An 81-year-old won't get a better shot than this to produce a better result. He utilised the opportunity and executed very well.

Earlier I was impressed with Clémence Poésy in 'Birdsong' and again she was appeared in here as an angel. Mr. Morgan might have fallen in love with her, but it's me who fallen a couple of second before him. She was very attractive and also succeed to capitalised her portions completely. It won't be wrong to say she is the French version of Claire Danes.

As a German-French collaboration, it gives a more international appeal to be in English in more than 95 per cent of the film. The weakness of the movie was Michael Caine's role where he lived in Paris all his adult life, but never learnt French. Also, his two children who had a French mother and doesn't know single French word. Like I earlier said All the Character from the book was French and the director slightly missed in a few areas to change when he changed for a screenplay which became the noticeable flaw.

It was the spectacular performances display by everyone, that impacted the movie to be a good one. The story won't travel on what we would expect, especially in the last quarter of the movie when the meaning of title collapse and gives new perspective to the romance. That was kind of annoying, but that is the best way to go when story had characters like these. The one who takes the movie as it is could feel they had a nice movie, but for others it is disastrous. More or less from my side it is a 'go and get' signal.

From negligence & emptiness to exploration.

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 10 April 2014 10:14 (A review of Young & Beautiful)

It is a French drama directed by 'In the House' director which chronicles a teenage girl's sexual exploration. A plain story, but well transformed into a movie with good cast and performances.

The subject briefs how a girl can slip away from her actual goal when life filled with loneliness. Sometimes within the family, the negligence of parents puts their children pick wrong path. As the result they move on the way they encounter in a life junction. In such style this movie travels where a girl from this story begin to engage in sexual activities which makes feel her emptiness go away apart from her good companion, her little brother.

With the help of todays technology it is not hard to find the desired one and to conceal from others. It is nothing like the few decades ago, now, the young people can cleanly cover up the wrongdoing from their parents. So this movie can be useful to study about the teenager character behaviours.

Very clever performance by character Isabelle. Her seductive facial look makes men stick firm with the movie till the end. It had no puzzle to solve like the director's earlier movie, but used teenager to portray her issues in four seasons. As the change of one season to another kind of failed to transform character together which made tough to understand.

Bringing up emotions and family to solve the final portion was a nice patch. Overall, the simple concept was illustrated in a satisfactory manner. The 'Young & Beautiful' was neither about a nymphomaniac nor prostitution, but kind of exploiting both to depict how a modern day secret societal system work.
