A story of a long married English couple

Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 25 March 2014 06:40 (A review of Le Week-End)

A simplest movie, which tells the story of an old couple from Birmingham who decides to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary in Paris. Like all the married couples these two as well not exceptional for facing all the ups and downs during their life together. So this story spells some of their tragic and happy moments of past and present.

Nicely written script, it was very plain and narrow. Everything in the movie was kept uncomplicated including portrayal of characters. Jeff Goldblum's cameo was added more flavour to the movie. His entry was at the right time to spice up the momentum.

The adventurous mischief of the two couples in the city of love was the movie's fun parts. Apart from that, uncompromising dialogue between them briefs their relationship difficulties. One more movie to add to the list where the old guys rule. It is based on a precious subject, kinda rare in today's cinema.

A delightful movie to watch. Began with a normal pace, then later geared up till the end. With a minimum cast the movie did not cost much, but there is no compromise in quality. Very much more enjoyable which deals with a sensitive issue of a long married couple. It is a good pick for the family audience to watch on weekends.

Sometime worth risking all for the sake of future

Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 25 March 2014 06:38 (A review of The Priest's Children)

A story that set in a small Croatian island. It is a comedy, but also a serious issue that the country is facing right now. So thanks to the filmmakers to foray this matter into a nice comical style movie. Yes, the presentation was unique, displayed everything in a sophisticated manner. It was based on a stage play and was in controversy for the portrayal of serious issue in such a shade and characters.

The story commences with a young priest Don Fabijan who tell his tale to another priest. So the flashback begins where he was working in an island church. In that small town, the death rates are rising at an alarming rate, but birth rates are completely nil. Then he decides to make the balanced ratio with the help of a couple of other trustees. What follows is the confusions among people over the sudden changes in life order of the community.

I got very interested when I heard about the movie for the first time. The title itself was tempting, after reading its synopsis I became desperate to see it. So kept my expectations as much possible low. In another angle I was hoping it not to be alike 'Nacho Libre' with a slightly altered character of Jack Black. Thank god it was a different than others of the similar kind.

Recently I explored into some of the Croatian and its neighbouring region movies and I am happy for those including this fine comedy. I give you a green flag signal to go for it, but you should not expect anything extraordinary from this simple comedy.

Good movie with good story, but did not have a sta

Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 20 March 2014 07:25 (A review of The Ultimate Life)

This is a sequel to the 2006s 'The Ultimate Gift'. The story commences from where It ended in the first, but after opening few minutes it takes us to the flashback story in the earlier decades. It was not a bad story at all, but it did not have any valuable film stars in it to lighten up. Especially failing to bring back Drew Fuller was the biggest drawback for this sequel. Other than that it was well filmed in beautiful places in the United States. This movie was not bad as you heard about it. If you try it once, you will realise what I was saying. It is a fine B movie.

You can watch it, but you can't enjoy it.

Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 20 March 2014 07:18 (A review of Welcome to the Jungle)

The movie maker might have thought using Van Damme would brighten up this movie but terribly failed. It is not funny, it is not adventurous and it is not even look like a big screen movie. The quality of production was the only interesting thought they did not spend it wisely and broadly. You can watch this movie from first to last, but you can't enjoy it any portion of it. This movie was based on a silly concept with okayish actors in it which looked like a weekend movie that aired on a television. Hope you guys won't end in a disappointment like me for choosing this movie to watch.

Specially made for kids but poor standard

Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 20 March 2014 07:10 (A review of Alpha And Omega 2: A Howl-iday Adventure)

This movie is for kids under 8. I enjoyed watching both the parts, but never liked them. I saw this movie because I was desperate for an animation movie so I had no other option but when I decided to watch.

I can't say it was a very bad because it is specially made for children, but technically it was too bad, poor quality. Good 3D models, but bad texturing and colour tone.

The story as well about a quest which is very very simple. So Recommended to skip it, only if you got have plenty of other choices to pick one rather than this one.

A better serious family drama than a comedy

Posted : 10 years, 2 months ago on 18 March 2014 12:45 (A review of August: Osage County)

Well, what made this movie a very special? Of course the stars. Yeah, this movie was overwhelmed with a pack great actors and actresses. It was based on a play and very beautifully cinematised. Usually scripts for plays are designed to take place in a limited location so that is why it was not stretched by map. The movie was shot at a couple of locations and the majority of them are in a country house, in that most part comes while dining. So that is where it kinda reminded me 'When do we eat?'.

I love dramas specially which deals about a family issues like honest father, jobless son, lonely daughter, ill mother, drug addict grands children, rich laws, faithful maid et cetera. In some scenarios, it will reverse and becomes a great comedy like the one we had seen in Ben Stiller or Adam Sandler movies. Stories like this are very near to our lives, well, at least for somebody in some way. The much reality it goes, much impresses me. This is the one of a beautiful family drama of the year.

The movie characters were portrayed in an elegant manner. The connections between each others and problems to be solved were placed in the perfect positions. In many parts you can see the extended scenes, it is because to give a feel of a cinema. Some of the quotes relating life and relationship were inspiring.

In this movie, the three time Oscar winner Meryl Streep got an another nominee tag for her beautiful performance. Julia Robert as well was nominated for best supporting actress but lost to '12 Years a Slave'. Not only these two, others too filled the movie with their powerful performances, including the rising star Abigail Breslin.

Casey & Harrelson steal the show over Bale

Posted : 10 years, 2 months ago on 18 March 2014 12:42 (A review of Out of the Furnace)

I think Christian Bale's presence made all the difference in the movie. Everyone says Ben Affleck is the worst actor ever, but he's okay to me. His brother Casey is the most annoying actor I have ever seen. No offense, but I hate everything from him, talking to acting exasperates me. Though he had a very nice role in here, but did not last long.

Not to forget to mention Woody Harrelson. A story like this requires a powerful negative character so he filled that spot with a stunning performance. I can say Bale had a prominent role, but Casey and Harrelson, who made this movie happen. Without those two characters, Bale would have been useless. So the combination of these trio were the movie's main focus. Saldana was not required, she appears only for a few minutes, in one of a scene it was strong which came very handy.

It is the story of two brothers. It was depicted with the backdrop of a small town's poor economy where most of the men are out of the jobs. They have to create opportunity by themselves if not escaping from there is the solution. It is not a story with moralities, but about the love, pain and ultimately a revenge. Convincing story for interconnecting characters with intense scenes everywhere. It slows in many parts without musics. It may not be your perfect movie, but offers realism.

It is ur usual Statham movie but also a good movie

Posted : 10 years, 2 months ago on 18 March 2014 12:38 (A review of Homefront)

I admire Jason Stathan. He is not made for the Oscars, Golden Globes or any awards but still he's unstoppable. He is the only kinda surviving and serving in cinema successfully. When it comes to the commercial cinemas anyone can easily pick this mans movies to watch any given day. It is guaranteed entertainment. I always wanted to praise him for his contribution to the commercial cinemas who made stabilize over the recent fast growing graphic-cum-commercials.

The Story of this movie was not freshly squeezed. You can find similarities with other movies. Not the whole movie, part by part from different movies. After seeing the opening scene I thought it is better to call it a sequel to 'A History of Violence'. But the story started to take turns for every 20 minutes. It is a nicely arranged pieces and kept very simple as possible.

I am glad that Sylvester Stallone Invested to make this movie with Jason Statham and James Franco. Looks like Statham and Stallone sharing a good friendship after working together for 'The Expedibles' movies. I still unable to recognise James Franco as a tough man, for me he's a chocolate hero. Undoubtedly he was awesome in this film, but I love to see him in a beautiful romantic movie near future.

It was a decent movie, but the stunts were not good enough as we expect from Statham movie. According to the story, it was well achieved. More dramatised crime-thriller than an action. That can draw attention to a family audience, but drug scenes in the movie are what repels them away. Everything is not that strong, still it is rated R. Whatever they say it's a treat to watch if you are a Statham fan.

Good actors but poor chemistry, somehow convinced

Posted : 10 years, 2 months ago on 18 March 2014 12:34 (A review of Kill Your Darlings)

Still not satisfied with Daniel Radcliffe performance. He has to come out from the character Harry Potter. He must lose his eye glass and try to give natural expressions. He has to learn a lot to be a great actor in this competitive cinema world or downfall is guaranteed.

It was a good story, but Radcliffe ruined it in few occasions. He tried his best in many parts, I liked his hard work and execution. I though Dane DeHaan tried to stir whole ship by himself behalf of his co-stars, but his role was not built well. Because the story was told from Radcliffe perspective. Yeah, it is the fact that Dane DeHaan saved the movie as much he could.

It was based on a real person and a gay theme. The story sets in the 40s where two students in the English major in Columbia university try to revolutionise the future literacy with their unique ideas. The efforts are made, but stuck in a confused relationship that harms everything in front of them.

As based on homosexual from an earlier era, it was presented well. Kept background secrets of a character to break in at a right time of the story. Initially the title explains its meaning, but as the story progress it becomes more reality. I feel bad to blame everything on Radcliffe but I know someday I gonna praise him with my full heart. I was saying that it would have been nice if his role was given to some other actors like Andrew Garfield or Freddie Highmore. That means it is not a red signal to skip this movie, believe me it is a good movie.

Began with a lot of fun & ended with high emotion

Posted : 10 years, 2 months ago on 18 March 2014 12:27 (A review of Last Vegas)

Recently I have seen some good movies based on a gang of old people. 'Stand Up Guys', 'Quartet', 'Song for Marion', 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' et cetera the list goes on where aged people rule. It's nice to see old guys are still capable to handle the responsibility in the entertainment business. Those movies I saw were really awesome including this movie.

After the opening scene which lasted for a couple of minutes the next commencing portion of the story was very ordinary. Just like a copy and paste of todays movie theme based on young people who fancy LAs lifestyle. It was until the beginning of the last quarter of the movie. That is the segment I began to love it. The love triangle with strong emotions. In one word to describe, it was an ordinary opening, but ended in a style.

It is hard to point out who had a greater role and who excelled their parts. In my view, all the four + one were equally performed good. The flaw was in the story which made no sense in many scenes regarding casino and their guest. Except those it was highly entertaining, especially the first half was fun and the rest were about heartbreaking love and friendship.

It was kinda envious because someday I am gonna be an old and a similar kinda situation may occur to me. It might not be my story, but looks like those four are gonna be me and my friends someday. This movie might not be a reality, but stays closer to your heart in emotionally. It was not a great movie as well not rejectable.
