A pleasant surprise,

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 17 December 2013 12:55 (A review of Midnight Son)

A little surprise in fact a lot, this is a little sweet movie, mostly underrated because it is a B list movie. No big actors or big film makers but still this is something amazing especially the story was so good, and it is the backbone and highlights.

I wanted to say what this movie is all about but I should be more cautious of leaking any spoilers. A young poor man with a rare disease meets a girl then their lives see the changes one with a right and another with a wrong direction with a twist on right time.

This movie was made so cleverly, the cast was perfectly picked, I never seen them before in any movie but they performed good so the direction. The movie looked a bit realistic due to the screenplay. A nice quality flick for a low budget.

A heaven that everyone wanted to live in,

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 17 December 2013 12:53 (A review of An Unfinished Life)

One of a best drama which shot on a beautiful county places, love to live rest of my life there. The movie was a light-heartbreaking but sweetest movie of 2005. We can say kinda similar to 'Safe haven' but end twist and characters are the differences.

An extremely artistic, meaningful and so beautiful drama like a freshly bloomed flower on an unseason. I love Lasse Hallstrom movies, his works are not too emotional or too dramatic but always balanced. Robert Redford and Morgan Freeman were excellent as always they are, Jennifer Lopez and her daughter role who played were also so good.

One of a best cast movie which brought a new life from its original book. My heart always welcomes this kinda fine drama movies and I highly recommend it for drama fans!

The crucial portion of the story narration of 'Hob

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 14 December 2013 06:43 (A review of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug)

The second installment of the 'Hobbit' trilogy which is the prequel to 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy. 365 days of wait is over, last year around the same day I saw 'An Unexpected Journey'. It totally blew me away with those awesome thrilling adventures and great graphics especially to watch a favourite movie in high frame rate gave a new dimensional experience. Also to see the 'The Lord of the Rings' character in digital 3D especially Gollum was amazing.

The movie kick starts with the director Peter Jackson's cameo as he crosses over from left to right on the screen having a bite of a carrot in a town called Bree. Then the missing scene from the first part of 'Hobbit' commence where the great wizard Gandalf the Grey offers the help to the dwarves to reclaim their kingdom. After that the narration continues from where it ended in 'An Unexpected Journey'. The nonstop exciting journey of dwarves proceeds in the middle-earth nothing lesser than its earlier part with the company of a Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins. So the hope remains in Thorin, the next king of Erebor to fight back their enemy and take a revenge.

The missing in this movie is the Gollum, I don't think he will come back in the next installment as well. A little disappointing for Gandalf fans as well. He was not in action as much we aspired to see his magical stuffs. If you are a die hard 'The Lord of the Rings' the list goes on. In another way it is great to see new faces around. But you must remember it is not the movie(s) about the 'ring', it is the dwarves tale where it all happens before Gimli, son of Gloin.

Like I said the good thing is the reintroduction of the Elvin prince of Woodland Realm, Legolas. Last time we saw him in the final battle of middle-earth in the movie 'The Return of the King'. The 'Lost' fame Evangeline Lilly was the newest major addition of the series and she was amazing. She lonely fulfilled the due of women's contribution of this particular movie of 'Hobbit' trilogy. Like she Luke Evans was also had a prominent role but I guess his major action sequences will come in the next part.

In this and next paragraph I gonna write some good's and bad's of this movie. I wanna begin by saying HFR was unbelievable, the picture quality was very good with no blurs in fast panning camera sequences. I know few people may get hard time to adjust with smoothness in motion but you will get used to it if you already saw the first. Compared to 'An Unexpected Journey' it had a little more drama in story narration but as usual it had the adventures that happen in a tight situation. There's a similar kind escape scene what we had seen under the mountain kingdom Goblin. Here which happen in the water I mean the river where dwarves are getting escaped from the Elves and of course the Arcs.

"My arm is like tenfold shields, my teeth are like swords, my claws are the spear, the shock of my tail is a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane and my breath death" is what the Smaug describes himself angrily. In this whole movie all I expected was to see the Smaug, the last great dragon of middle-earth. As we know it was an adaptation of children's book so I was curious to see Smaug to talk. In all the last four movies I have not seen talking animal as per my knowledge. The first time I got the impression of the root base of fantasy touch like we had seen in 'Narnia' and 'Harry Potter' movie series. The British actor Benedict Cumberbatch gave his incredible voice and performance through motion capture to the Smaug.

There's nothing we can do than have a peek while it is in the cinema hall. As usual this movie will bomb the box office. I am already beginning to think about the 2015 Christmas holiday, without 'Hobbit' it will be most disappointment festival season. As for now I gonna end 2013 with this masterpiece.

Tolkien would have been blown away to see his own creation in a breathtaking motion picture. He wrote it keeping in mind children, as based on a children the movie achieved the heights that no one ever imagined which attracted the adults more than children. So all the credits go to the man behind it, Peter Jackson and then the his cast and crew. Now I have to wait another 365 days to have the grand finale of the 'Hobbit' series, feels like one more decade to go. In the mean time I might see it again and wait for the Blu-ray. So what's your plan...

The great escape from the reality to illusion

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 13 December 2013 11:33 (A review of Lucia)

From last few months I was wondering what the fuss over this movie. It was recognized and appreciated into the international arena. Many were comparing it to other great movies from different corners of the earth. It only made more curiosity in me and that led to have a peek into it. Just now had a chance to see it, so now I am here to share my view about it.

I have not seen Kannada movies since last few years so I consider it is an opportunity to put me back on the track. It was the first Kannada movie produced by the audience. So there are lots of surprising stuffs in the movie as well in the making of it.

Somehow I know Pawan Kumar because I saw his movies 'Pancharangi' and 'Manasaare'. Those both movies were really something different, one can't get better than that as per the standards of Indian films. He is famous for his slapstick comedies in his movies so I believe if you know the language your enjoyment will be double. When it comes to the actors of this movie I know no one but they all performed awesomely as per script demanded. The lead character who played Nikki, it will be his career best and will be remembered for a very long. The actress too very sweet and cute who appeared in the movie as Swetha.

The story was told in the two layers revealing the back stories of a coma patient. The movie centers around the mysterious pills called 'Lucia'. A pill which brings the dream in your sleep similar to reality. Just like the movie 'Limitless' it is an addictive and easily cannot be stopped. A young man who works in a theatre as a torch boy finds hard to sleep at nights. One night he accidentally meets some strangers who suggest this pill. Then after he begin to have a good life like never before. He also gets a girlfriend for more than his lifestyle standards. The real trouble begins when his dream and reality collides makes him confuse over both. And the rest of the story tells how he gonna escape from the great play by illusion. It won't end there, there is parallel story too happen where crime branch investigates the case of a coma patient. So be prepared to get the surprised twists and turns in the last quarter of the story.

The Hghlight of the movie was the presentation where one of the two layer was in black and white. Editing too had a good role in movies's shuffled order. As per my knowledge I guess this is the best ever movie made in Kannada to the international standards. A regional movie like this making big is only the beginning to level up with Bollywood and maybe to overtake.

It is highly recommended by me so get ready for the pure Indian magical touch. Finally, hats off to Pawan Kumar who is the writer and director of the movie, expecting similar kinda works in future projects as well.

It is a game of track and slip away.

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 13 December 2013 11:30 (A review of Gam-si-ja-deul)

You can call it a remake or inspired but this movie resembles Simon Yam's 'Eye in the sky' and a little bit of 'Infernal Affairs'. And that confirms when Simon himself appears as a cameo at the end. This Korean movie was very stylishly made especially the character appearances. An exciting pace with high tech electronic devices implements to spy the criminals gives a very modern look on detectives.

The movie begins with a twist at opening itself like some interview to hire somebody. Its a surveillance theme where a team of Korean intelligence works together to take down a group of bank robbers. Piglet is a given pet name to a newly recruited officer for the special crime unite. Her impressive observation talent puts her straight into a major spying case. Soon she gets her first field assignment to track the movements of one of the heist member. The thrilling story of 'Cold Eyes' tells how Piglet and her team led by Lee jointly acts to get the ruthless thieves.

This movie portrayed only between the two groups and nothing else like the rest of the world is blind. Between these two, the thieves and cops, it is demonstrated like a cat-mouse game. It was a good entertaining movie one can enjoy it thoroughly. If you have already seen 'Eye in the sky' or not, no matter this movie is still looking good on its own so you will have a good time. There were no hardcore stunts in the movie except a couple of quick sequences. After all it is a spying theme which fulfills its purpose in a stylish manner.

A couple's pain, another's gain

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 13 December 2013 11:27 (A review of Love Is All You Need)

Surprisingly this movie expelled all my expectations. It was a simply good movie with nice characters and places, not an awesome-awesome one though. So diverse romance-drama told in the perspective of the elder people's beginning of a new relationship. It is a predictable plot so there's no surprise twists at all. From the director of 'In a Better World' this movie narrates the story of a widower and a hairdresser whose husband is cheating on her.

A widower businessman in his 50s probably is preparing to attend his son's wedding in abroad. In other side of the story a woman who successfully completed her cancer treatment as well getting ready to attend her daughter's wedding in Italy. In an accident these two meet at the airport. With a little discomfortable at beginning they start to like each other. For the sake of children these two must sacrifice what they have found within them. So the lives goes on as it forced them to move along with it.

Extraordinary performances by Pierce Brosnan and a woman on his counterpart character called Ida was awesome. I can't finish this review without mentioning the bride, she looked so pretty. Sadly it was not her story. The seaside locations in Italy were beautiful, played a crucial role in the movie's pleasant presentation. They shot it at the right season I guess because it was alluring. Everyone might not enjoy the movie because it deals about older people's romance and I am not old but I liked it.

Miracle lies between the fun and emotion

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 13 December 2013 11:22 (A review of Miracle in Cell No. 7)

Like tween girls in Japanese anime, tween girls are in Korean live shot movies. There are plenty of movies had seen success on father-tween daughter or similar combo. Those were really cool comedies and some were action-thrillers. This is one of those kinda where it deals a mentally challenged father and his 6 year old daughter. It has been a fun filled movie with often character emotion strikes strongly.

From the director of 'Champ' who again portrayed childish father and brave daughter relationship in this movie as well. There no much deviation in those two characters, only circumstances changes here. Lee is a mentally challenged of 6 year old mind who got a daughter with same age. He works in a supermarket and earns enough for his little family. They lead a regular smooth life like everyone until Lee gets arrested for a criminal offense. Now this child got no elders to take care after her father. How this innocent little girl fight for her father is what the movie portrayed in its remaining.

It was a heartwarming family movie with equally fun and melodrama filled story. Frankly to say I did not like it as much as everybody else around me because the emotions looked a bit fake to me. To me it looked alike 'The Green Mile' with total changed scenario. Why am saying it mean I love emotional themes, it is one of my favourites. The kid performed very well though and the convincing father character. At least you might like it more than me because it's got lots of positive responds from movie goer everywhere. So what you are waiting for, give it a try.

Africa from a different angle...

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 11 December 2013 05:41 (A review of Sleeping Sickness)

It is an art movie. Africa, the first thing pop out into our mind is jungles and wild animals. Whole story takes place in different remote areas of an African country, Cameroon. Where European doctors sent to treat the people who are suffering from sleeping sickness.

Lot like the story divides into two episodes, one was about the European doctors and their life style far from home and their relationship with family and people around them. The second one shows the beauty of the true Africas natural environment. There is a tiny twist at the end like a commercial movies. This movie is not for everyone but definitely feel good movie!

It'l haunt u & breaks ur heart unless u r a strong

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 11 December 2013 05:40 (A review of Gardens Of The Night)

Remember the movies 'Trade' and 'Taken', it was quite similar to those two movies, The plot was same like how the human trafficking has been done, bit disturbing theme. Really a challenge to watch by soft heart people and confusing to rate it. I still have a pain in my heart, I had hard time watching it.

What they showed in the movie is what really happening out there. I am glad this movie was made, people would be more cautious because it was not a message movie but a warning bell.

This movie is largely unnoticed by movie fanatics which definitely worth to take a look. I recommend it but be aware of the theme.

Of course 'this could be your love story'

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 11 December 2013 05:38 (A review of You Are My Golden Springtime)

I still remember Gautham Menon's Press meet after 'Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa' success, He said 'some people did not like VTV much and my nest flick is for them. One of those was me and I thoroughly enjoyed each and every frame of NEP. Both the movies were totally different in story and presentation so comparing between them and saying which one is better is really a bad idea.

Samantha's best performance so far in a Tamil movie and Jiiva was excellent as usual. This is the fight stories of three different stages of a love story. Of course it was slow like everyone complaining about, without those drag it would have been a mess because when the movie ends you will feel you went through those places and time along with the characters and the art of a movie always lies in the slow presentation.

'This could be your love story' is the tagline of the movie and I found some similarities in few scenes that happened around me in real life. Hope Hindi version gonna be a huge hit like Tamil and Telugu. A must see Romance-drama by youngsters!

8.5/10
