A tale of finding love

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 27 December 2013 02:59 (A review of Paradise: Love)

The first movie of the 'Paradise' trilogy. All the three stories happen in the same time in different locations with different themes. But the protagonists from all the three were a family like two sisters and a daughter. So this movie which unfolds the story of 'Love' of a woman who is mother to a 13 year old. And her journey afar seeking men who make love. Kinda never heard about men called 'sugar mamas' so for me this movie was totally afresh.

It chronicles the story of a 50 year old Austrian women Teresa who travels to Kenya seeking sexual pleasure. As she arrived her destination to a seaside resort she begin to explore like what most of the European women come there to seek. She finds her man but as they all are prostitute do they find her an attractive as she's a fat woman from the north. She tumble into a confusion state but sooner she things she got her perfect one. Does it long lost or she slip it away as usual for her typical reasons is the remaining.

The movie had a strong nude scene all over but not sexual intercourse like reality. If there are no beautiful young women and men that mean it is not belong to an adult movie. Sex is still a sex with any age men and women so I consider it is an adult movie which suits only for selected audience to view. When it comes to the story it was completely different than most of the movie that belongs to male prostitution theme. Much appreciable for the director for his unique approach to tell on the social issues.

What's ur future plan wen ur country is a war zone

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 24 December 2013 01:44 (A review of In This World)

Based on the true story of two young Afghan refugees and their journey towards a best place on the earth for their better future. This, documentary style adventure-drama of a British movie about illegal migrants from various refugee camps from middle-east chronicles as theirs lifetime voyage begins. From the director of Angelina Jolie starer 'A Mighty Heart', once more time he portrayed the people of middle-east who wants to escape from their poverty. He managed to extract the best from the non-professional actors and made it a one of a best movie of all time about illegal human migration.

Jamal and Enayat are two Afghan refugees from the camp located on the Pakistan border. The Enayat's father decides to send him to London from his war torn country. Jamal joins him as their voyage to modern world commence. During their journey they have to cross many countries between two continents to reach their destination. They meet other people like them who traveling different directions seeking a fresh life to begin. With all the hurdles would they reach their destination or not is the remaining tale to explode.

We have heard many stories like this but this movie gives you a real experience with almost the realistic images in front of you. The only minus point which I hated the movie in the initial stage due to the slaughtering scene. Since I saw this movie I could not erase those images from my mind. It was very cruel, so it is not suitable for kids and adults who love animals. But the rest of the movie is indubitable. Like the French movie 'Welcome' about a boy who want to cross the English channel, this movie briefs longest journey within 90 minutes with a fine pace. This is a good example movie about after effects of war where innocents only suffer more than between two fighters.

"The soul never dies."

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 24 December 2013 01:42 (A review of Ways to Live Forever)

It was a cancer theme movie which was adopted from a children's novel. It tells about a wish list that made by two kids who are dying from Leukemia. Those kids help each others to fulfill their last wishes. Light hearted emotional tale. All the cast performed well. Few animated clips come now and then throughout the movie to explain stuffs.

As a movie for under agers the illness treatment and death was kept under control. Adults may complain about few things in the movie but should remember its children friendly theme.

Well made movie which shows on a different perspective of illness suffering and grief. It could be a good pick for tearjerkers but still it won't fulfill completely. Like I said a children movie about awareness of leukemia and its treatment.

Have you seen John? asks Red dog

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 24 December 2013 01:41 (A review of Red Dog)

"Have you seen John?" is the one question to be answered to the Red and it will be.

This movie was based on a true story of the legendary dog called Red dog. And one of a best dog movie ever made after 'Hachiko a dog's tale' and many others. This movie begins with fun in fact lots of loads of fun simultaneously very emotional and heartbreaking tale.

Actually it was about a middle aged dog which appears from nowhere to a western Australian mining town called Dampier, and soon after he becomes everyone's dear and loved one which later taken care by them in the small community town without a particular master. When days passes everyone will have their own and unforgettable incidents with him till the day he picks his master.

This dog was really so cute and given so adorable expressions throughout the movie. You will love this movie if you ever had a dog like this! The story somewhere crosses and get past through the movie 'Hachiko a dog's tale', I mean there's some similarities between these two but still this movie was independent. It won't tell the exact true story of the Australian legendary red dog which lived in 1970s but made few changes to the movie. The producer of the movie told it is a movie not a documentary, hmm I think the answer is fair enough!

This movie must belong to everyone's one of the top Aussie movie into their collection. Highly recommended! Entertainment guaranteed and to have a tear released!

David review

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 24 December 2013 01:40 (A review of David)

Stylish screenplay, catchy bgs, nice editing and as usual wonderful performances by Chiyan and Jiiva but it got a weak story.

It was slow throughout first half but just before the interval scene it made some promise so during that break I prepared for something great on the way but again it failed me to impress in its 2nd hour.

Television promos says Hindi version got 3 Davids one from Goa (1999), one from Mumbai (2010) and another one from London (1975) but in Tamil version there was only two Davids one from Mumbai 1999 (Jiiva) and Another one was Goa 2010 (Chiyan). So what I am saying is I think in Tamil version the story is stretched which made movie pace go slow but looks like Hindi David is better pace with 3 stories.

I think these two version of movies should have separate pages like Wikipedia because there were lots of different in story and cast. Most of people who saw Tmail may say it is not good and vote bad and those who saw Hindi may say it is good and vote better and I am worried about the average. Whatever, the movie is not for everyone, looks like it is a trend setter but I am not convinced than presence of two awesome actors.

Watch it as you are and transform into Frances

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 20 December 2013 12:29 (A review of Frances Ha)

It was my personal favourite of the year. I just can't show how much I loved this movie but will try my best in this review to explain. It was just like the movie 'The Pursuit of Happiness' where it describes a person's struggle over professional as well the relationship with a best friend. I don't know why this movie was in black and white but very seductive, like women from Charles Chaplin movies. The expressions are 'the killer' if you are a man who fall easily for struggling women. 'Ruby Sparks' is my one of the year's favourite which was written by the lead female of the movie and the same goes to 'Celeste and Jesse Forever'. I know it is out of topic but I was saying the lead actress from this movie who played Frances wrote this. All these were women oriented subjects which rendered the movies from a distinct angle.

Frances is a cute and sarcastic woman in her late 20s lives with a best friend Sophie in New York city. She is not talented but as a professional dancer she earns enough to lead a happy life. Once she and her boyfriend breakup, Sophie too throws an another bomb as she decides to move out to live with her boyfriend. One after another her battle to survive in the city for rich remains hopeless. But pursue for her dream never ends as she wanted to be a fine choreographer. For all these she must hold back her downs of her life and aim only up to self discover the meaning of the life. Did she successful or not is what the movie steadily chronicles her efforts.

The character Frances will be remembered for a long time, especially by me. I just did not only had a fondness on that character but it completely transformed me as one. In fact I felt the movie deeply into me that I regretted for unable to give my support to Frances. I came to know I am in love with Frances in the scene where she runs on the streets of Chinatown. I think it is the best scene of the movie, very adorable. You must watch the movie till the last frame before the end credits roll up to know the meaning of this strange title. It was a silly reason to have names like this for a movie but completely cool and refreshing. It is not a thought provoking or an art movie but believe me it is definitely a must see movie of the year.

One of the year's wonder

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 20 December 2013 12:27 (A review of Prisoners)

I witnessed many surprises this year and 'Prisoners' is one of those made me stun. With the big names in it, the movie revolves around a mysterious incident that puts two families into the sorrow. The deeply moving characters and its emotions are the movie's plus point and of course the great performance by the great actors as well. It is refreshing to see Hugh Jackman in a role the father to a missing child.

A similar kinda movie to 'The Lovely Bones' where two young girls are go missing and their parent's never ending search for them begins. With a single clue they begin to dig every detail to bring back their children along with the help of a young cop. As expected character diversion had an important hand in mystify and confuse the viewers without falling for anything to conclude their prediction before it reveal itself.

Fine photography. It was pleasant to see cool frames where there's no sun glare but always cloudy, shadow and dark atmosphere something like the movie 'The Awakening'. It brought real close to us the real grief of a family that we can almost feel it. Good or bad ending, the way it ends is all matters. In this story they give us an opportunity to take it either way as you want. One thing I was not convinced is the motivation for the abduction. The reason seemed to me a silly but in reality everything can be possible and sometimes it won't need reasons at all. Finally, it is a must not miss movie from the 2013 film calender.

A decent follow up with extra flavours

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 20 December 2013 12:23 (A review of Insidious: Chapter 2)

A satisfying horror sequel from the director of 'Saw'. As a second installment to 'Insidious', it went deeper into the behind story of a character of the movie. Yeah, the first one was told about a boy's special talent astral projection where he can travel to another world in his sleep. I considered that was the movie's advantage but comparing to this, they just implemented the same idea with neglecting the boy. In this movie it describes more about the father's perspective of the story without held back the much required secret for the twist at the end.

It opens with a story that set in 1986 where Josh as a kid is haunted by the souls of dead. Soon the story commence on present time where the Lambert family begins to feel again the presence of evil forces in their house. A team of spiritual medium begins their part to expose and free the family from dark forces. I thought the spiritual medium characters Elise and Carl is imitating the dwarf woman and an Indian characters from 'Poltergeist' movie series. I can say director was a clever, he just put away the usual ingredients of the horror genre and added different flavours like time travel and psychology.

For adults, most of the horror movies won't scary but watching during night will give more effective. So it a such movie you should try at a dark time for your own advantage to extract from it a better entertainment. I liked the first movie and this one is not far behind with the quality that all horror movie must have. So felt it is a decent follow up with a flashback story.

The family u never wanted to be in ur neighborhood

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 20 December 2013 12:21 (A review of The Family)

It was the story of an American family who are living under the witness protection in somewhere southern France. This is not an ordinary family where love and care are given the first preferences. They are also funny at a time for their atrocity against the annoying people. Watching it makes you feel good for the moment but it won't last for long. Call it a better commercial movie to enjoy our 2 hours with it.

Blake is a given fake family name for a family who are under witness protection. This trouble making small family with four members finds hard living alongside their new neighbors. They frequently move around different places with different names. One of those is where this movie takes place. And as usual it ends with what we saw on the opening. That makes us to think a sequel is in a due to clarify the remaining doubts.

This is not what we expected from the writer, director of hit movies like 'Leon: The Professional' and 'The Fifth Element'. He made many good movies as well average ones and this movie comes under okay type comedy-thriller. It had a good pair of actors, De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer. But the movie did not deeply explains all the characters that involved in the story. In halfway of the movie you will come to know there's nothing secret behind what opening sequences that created a puzzle of series mysteries.

Read the novel by watching 'The Words'

Posted : 10 years, 5 months ago on 17 December 2013 12:56 (A review of The Words)

Almost a masterpiece and one of best movie from the year 2012. These kinda movies won't make into Oscar, that's really a shame. There is some controversy like the plot was similar to a German movie which was also adapted from a novel 'Lila Lila'. I have not seen that movie nor read a novel so I just loved this movie.

The story had multiple layers from different eras and it was well balanced. The twists were not really complicated one, anyone can predict the scenes but all the above brilliant direction from the two dรฉbutante directors.

Performances were so good, Bradley cooper steals the show, I felt he was better than in 'Silver lining playbook'. This movie was about a writer and movie was like reading a novel itself. Most of the critics did not like it much but if you like dramas them you will love it. Highly recommended from my side, have a good day.
